Product Description
The Epson PhotoPC 850Z puts an arsenal of creative firepower at your fingertips. Its 3X optical zoom lens lets you zoom from 35mm to 105mm with the touch of a button. And your images download quickly to USB-enabled Windows 98, iMac and Power Macintosh G3 computers and serial port-equipped Windows and PowerPC computers. Need a high-powered flash? The built-in hot shoe makes attaching optional flash units a snap. The lens adapter makes switching between close-up, wide-angle and telephoto converter lenses a breeze. And you can even record and play back (right from the camera) up to a 10-second message for each image you take. Plus, the PhotoPC 850Z gives you the ability to store lots of images. It comes with an 8MB CompactFlash memory card and accepts Type I and Type II CompactFlash cards. If you've used a 35mm SLR camera before, you'll feel right at home with the PhotoPC 850Z. You get complete control of the shutter and aperture priorities, and you can adjust the focus, use matrix metering, or spot metering, and even change the sensitivity setting and white balance. The PhotoPC 850Z's CCD sensor and exclusive HyPict technology boost the camera's resolution to a phenomenal 1984 x 1488 pixels for breathtaking images as large as 11" x 14". And a built-in Solar Assist LCD panel extends battery life by using the sun to light the LCD in direct sunlight. If you're looking for a high-quality professional digital camera, take a look at the Epson PhotoPC 850Z. With this much firepower at your disposal, there's no telling what you'll create!

5 out of 5 stars Epson PhotoPC 850z Digital Camera is the best!   December 17, 2000

I've been looking for a digital camera for quite a while, and have been doing a lot of reading on many brands, and different cameras. The Epson PhotoPC 850z is the best one i've seen yet. It has many advanced features, which are quite simple to use. A feature that I particularly liked was that for every picture that you take, you can record a 10 seconds audio message. That certainly elimates scribbling notes on the back of the photos once they've been developed. I also like the 2 inch LCD monitor on the back, and the tripod mount on the bottom. Another thing that I really liked is that you are able to put the memory card right into certain Epson printers, and print straight from there. This is certainly a high quality camera. Two thumbs up to the Epson PhotoPC 850z Digital Camera!

4 out of 5 stars Great for IR   March 15, 2007

It is amazing how fast technology has changed in 7 years.
Now 10MP cameras are almost the norm.
Still, they got some things right back then, better than what we have now in certain aspects.
The Sony 2.1 MP sensor in this was pretty sweet, and highly sensitive to infrared light.

While I can't really recommend this camera for general use any more, slap on a R72 infrared filter and you have yourself and unmodified digicam capable of taking handheld infrared photos -- not long tripod exposures like most require today. If you are interested in IR, and find one of these cheap, it is well worth picking up for that alone! A sturdy, quality camera that is a bit slow, but still quite functional today, especially since it used CF card memory.
