5 out of 5 stars Far more useful than the Alpha manual!   June 10, 2007

This book is the ideal ready-reference for any Alpha owner who finds the Alpha manual less than helpful. Both better organized and more clearly-written than the manual, it also goes well beyond the manual in terms of what it covers: not only does it give a rundown of the camera's many features and directions for accessing them, it explains in an easy-to-understand way when and how to make use of each. Well worth the purchase price!

3 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Guide but not the Best   September 27, 2007

I found this to be a well-written and generally helpful guide to using the Sony DSLR-A100, far easier to follow than the manual that came with the camera. However, I found that for my purposes the Magic Lantern guide (titled simply SONY DSLR A 100 and also available from Amazon), which is comparable in cost, to be more helpful. While it lacks the color pictures of this guide, the trade-off for me was the more detailed information in the latter guide about the camera itself. In short I found that the "Digital Field Guide" tended to be simply a generic guide to DSLR cameras with Sony DSLR information pasted in wherever the author found it appropriate. The Magic Lantern guide on the other hand was Sony DSLR specific from the get-go (and you can by a parallel Magic Lantern DVD that is outstanding).

This book is very helpful in understanding all that my camera can do. I refer to it all the time! Better than the manual for most things.

Very good. Much easier to follow than the Sony manual, pictures and diagrams assist in understanding.
