Amazon.com Review For almost 20 years Jerry and Esther Hicks have been presenting workshops, producing tapes and writing books to help people create the life they desire. And desire is no small word in this agenda. According to the teachings of "Abraham"--a collective name for the spiritual entities that are channeled through Esther--desire is a good and natural force within us. In fact, we are all here to fulfill our desires, according to Abraham. Yet the reason so much of us feel frustrated, is that we have difficulty knowing how to ask and receive whatever we want to be, do or have. Although Jerry and Esther are listed as the authors, Ask and It Is Given is actually a collection of channeled messages from Abraham. Fans of Abraham and the Hicks may not find new information, but will probably be delighted to have an inspiring, updated book that speaks to the familiar conversation of attracting the life we want. Newcomers may also be intrigued by this excellent, in-depth discussion on how to change one s life by matching the vibrational energy of one s desires--taking the power of positive thinking to a whole new level. Because this material is channeled, it often reads like The Power of Now or A Course in Miracles--not a fast food book to be devoured in one sitting. Rather, this is a book to be read in passages, with a soothing gestation period in between. It includes much advice on working with energy and emotions as well as specific chapters on increasing prosperity, reclaiming health, working with meditation, and clearing clutter for clarity. For those who are onboard with the "Laws of Attraction" and the "Art of Receiving" that Abraham speaks of, this could be one of those deliciously mysterious books that you can open to any page and it seems to offer the exact advice or insight you need right now.--Gail Hudson

I'm currently reading and loving the new Abraham book! October 9, 2004 Stanlie Lee (South Pasadena, CA USA) 276 out of 307 found this review helpful
Abraham gives something extra in this book that I hadn't gleaned from all the Abe tapes and CDs that I've listened to, and that is an easy way to figure out, of the many processes they have "spewed" over the years, when to use which process--how do we know which is most appropriate for our specific situation right now, and why some processes may work better or less well than others, depending on where we are in our life. Well that is exactly what this book clarifies, and I trust that you, my fellow Abe fans, will enjoy the book as much as I have! And also, if you're a fan of Esther, her introductory chapter alone would be worth your buying the book. You can feel the beautiful place she is in her life right now, to be writing such good-feeling words! Now, if you're not familiar with who Abraham is, then the best (most convincing) reviews of this book you will find by searching for (typing in) "Ask And It Is Given" on Google and click the first link to show up. Then, scroll down that page, and you will see, Wayne Dyer, among others, praise the book to the high heavens, haha! Lastly, again for those new to Abraham, if you want to read more about their teachings before buying this book, again go to Google and this time search for "Abraham-Hicks" and again the first item on the results should lead you to where you need to go. Enjoy!

This is the first time I have ever read a book by Esther and Jerry Hicks, and the Abraham teachings, and I have to applaud them for bringing humanity such a profound book that will definitely uplift your consciousness and your life. This book is extremely well written, easy to understand and apply, and will surely bring you wonderful results. It shows how we are all connected to Divine Source, at every moment of our lives to co-create, and manifest all we truly desire and deserve. It is truly a must read, and a must share with others. Thank you Esther and Jerry for your wonderful contribution to humanity! Barbara Rose, Ph.D. author of If God Was Like Man, Stop Being the String Along, and Know Yourself

I have been teaching the Law of Attraction to people for 20 years. This is the best tool I've seen yet.
Now that we have the pie in the sky, let's add some wisdom for good measure. March 25, 2007 Allegra (USA) 89 out of 104 found this review helpful
What is most disturbing here is that 'Abraham' says that you can have, do or be whatever you desire, and lots of people find out the hard way that this is simply not true. I've seen countless people pin their hopes and dreams on these teachings and for a large portion of them, it just didn't go their way. Then they end up blaming themselves because they must have done something wrong if they didn't get what they want, right? (Or worse, they become angry and disenchanted, which is truly a great misfortune.) Then when things didn't work out for these people, Abraham basically tells them that it is their fault. I've heard this in their workshops and on their CDs. So ultimately it's always the person's fault rather than the simple explanation that sometimes bad things happen or things don't work out. That is a part of life, isn't it? Is it always a given that chasing after your dream will manifest it? No. It is not. I've seen Abraham followers blame victims of Katrina for their misfortune. I've read emails on the Abraham email list stating that these victims attracted this. There was no compassion to spare. Not even a desire to watch the news because that would be negative and focusing on the negative is a big no-no. One can understand not wanting to watch such a tragedy, but to have no compassion for these people? To blame them for their circumstances and misfortune? That's just heartless. And this is the sort of thing Abraham perpetuates with their 'wisdom.' Take what you will from that. I hate to be the realist in this crowd (well no, not really because a realist is what is needed), but it is simply not that cut and dry. This is what the most rabid of Abraham and Law of Attraction followers loathe to hear because it's devastating to their high hopes and quite likely rings of a wisdom that in the core of their being they know is true. And yet, they pounce on it like rabid dogs because reality is a bit too much for them. This is who you risk becoming when you follow this path of always being positive and never being or feeling anything negative. It's not all flowers and hearts. I know. I've seen it first hand. This is the ugly underbelly of many hardcore positive thinkers. But the simple truth that many Abraham followers don't want to hear is that everything does not always go the way you wish or want. But that is life. Here is where Law of attraction believers attack, on this point, for stating a simple truth. Ultimately their explanation would be that life is this way for myself and others because this is what we believe and think and therefore attract. However, I didn't believe or think this for many years. I, like many other followers of law of attraction, believed I could manifest my desires. And I, like many others, discovered that this is not always possible or a given. All of this said, I will say that while I have discovered and therefore do not believe law of attraction can always give you your every desire, or as it is pimped by Abraham, that you can have, do or be whatever you desire, I will say that I do sincerely believe that there is something to be gained from the root concept of the law of attraction. What is the root concept? Believe in your dreams and go after them. Be positive and think positive. Focus on your desires enough to keep yourself motivated. The part of Abraham's pitch that I find fatally flawed, yet it is a VERY major part of their pitch, is that you can just simply sit back and will whatever you want into existence through shear force of will by daydreaming, always being happy, etc. That part is the BS part that becomes problematic for so many. The idea that you do not have to work hard or even work at all and that being joyous and daydreaming will bring forth whatever you desire is pure garbage. Now, to be specific, I will say that Abraham always adds in a little disclaimer here, which is to take action when you are inspired (AKA Work toward your goal when you really, really, really, really, really feel like it. Otherwise, don't bother and just imagine and daydream and be happy all you want.) If you are going to buy this book, be wise in how deeply you take this all to heart. Abraham has a great deal to offer in the way of motivating people to reach for their dreams and aspire to more. There are many positives here so I cannot and will not recommend tossing the baby out with the bath water. But use your common sense. Don't expect to win the powerball jackpot as I've seen many do. Don't sit back and think daydreaming is going to get you everything you ever wanted. Be willing to take steps toward your goals beyond always being happy (which for most people just isn't possible). The Secret, The Law of Attraction, Ask and It Is Given are all the same book packaged differently with slightly different pitches based on the audience they are going after. Yes, you do have the power to make you life more like you want it to be. Just don't be naive or foolish about it. Be willing to do the leg work, because without that, gifts are not going to fall from the sky.
The best manifesting book I have found March 20, 2006 Fast Forward (Nagoya, Aichi Japan) 58 out of 60 found this review helpful
Long ago, I read some books by Joseph Murphy about how to manifest. I got some pretty good results, and then again, sometimes not. Murphy explained it pretty much one way. When things didn't work, I thought I hadn't read the books enough. And then came this book. It lays out the foundations of manifesting from ALL angles. Have you ever struggled to understand something, and then someone says something that "hits you just right"--something that puts it into "your language" so that you understand instantly? This book does that again and again. The tone of the book is spiritual and friendly, and Abraham grows on you. He speaks with complete logic, in a manner which is as direct as it is loving. Don't overlook the last half of the book--fun exercises which actually get you into the habit of successfully manifesting. As you will read, your ability to manifest what you want has a lot to do with your emotional vibrations--and Abraham gives simple yet effective guidance on that as well. I sent my mom a copy, and she is loving it and using it to improve her health (she's 85.) The first time I read "Ask and It Is Given", I had to go slow, digesting one chapter at a time. Now I'm re-reading it without stopping. I learn more with each reading, and merely reading this book makes me feel great!
