Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Babies need it, parents want it-- the call for a good night s sleep has parents everywhere looking for a solution like this: an easy-to-follow plan from a renowned baby sleep specialist that delivers on the promise of its title.

There is no bigger issue for healthy infants than sleeping through the night. In this simple, straightforward book, Suzy Giordano presents her amazingly effective "Limited- Crying Solution" that will get any baby to sleep for twelve hours at night and three hours in the day by the age of twelve weeks old.

Giordano is the mother of five children and one of the most sought-after baby sleep specialists in the country. The Washington Post calls her a baby sleep "guru" and "an underground legend in the Washington area for her ability to teach newborns how to achieve that parenting nirvana: sleeping through the night." Her sleep plan has been tested with singletons, twins, triplets, babies with special needs, and colicky babies and it has never failed.

Whether you are pregnant, first-time parents, or parents who seek a different path with your second or third child, anyone can benefit from the Baby Coach s popular system of regular feeding times, twelve hours of sleep at night and three hours of sleep during the day, and the peace of mind that comes with taking the parent and child out of a sleep- deprived world.

4 out of 5 stars A simple, easy recipe for sleep success   January 28, 2007

I bought this book when my first child was born, and applied the concepts after she was 8 weeks old. By 14 weeks, she was sleeping 11-12 hours/night with 2 naps during the day. She wasn't miserable, and I certainly did not starve her. My second child was born last year, and I followed the same plan. She was sleeping 12 hours by 13 weeks - also with two naps during the day. For those who suggest this book is inhumane, the author expressly states that you should not begin sleep training your baby until they are 8 weeks old, and at least 10 pounds AND consuming at least 24 ounces of formula or breastmilk in 24 hours. I will admit that I had better success when I bottle fed my children (I used expressed breastmilk) rather than nursed. You can determine how many ounces your baby is consuming more easily when bottle feeding vs. nursing.

You will achieve sleep success more easily if you are fairly regimented about training, and remain regimented until a schedule is well-established.

So for those reviewers who think that you are supposed to starve your baby for 12 hours at night, you are mistaken. The author does not suggest that at all. For the first 8 weeks of life, the author states that you must feed on-demand. Each baby is different, and you'll need to modify the sleep training techniques for your child, but the overall concept does work, and my children are happy, pleasant and well-rested.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST have!   February 5, 2006

Using this book, even my 34 week preemie was sleeping through the night by the time she was three months old! She's now napping well during the day and sleeping reliably between 11-12 hours at night. That means I can put her down at 7pm, and not hear from her again until 6 or 7 the next morning! If she does wake up during the night, she's able to soothe herself back to sleep, and when she wakes up in the morning, she can entertain herself in her crib for a while. I'm sure that not all parents believe in scheduling babies, but the proof is in the pudding. We're all sleeping.

Well worth the few hours it takes to read. One of the things that I liked best about this book is its brevity and well organized format. After the foreward and an introductory chapter, the heart of the book is divided into three chapters based on the first 12 weeks of a baby's life as the title implies.

Chapter 2: Weeks 1-6 (Take It Easy, But Do Not Create Bad Habits), Chapter 3: Weeks 6-8 (The Two-Week Storm), and Chapter 4: Weeks 8-12 (Baby Boot Camp).

Note that even if your child is older than 12 weeks, the methods in this book may still be applied up to 18 months of age.

The author also includes sample charts for feedings and diaper changes though you could easily create your own with Excel.

Overall, a worthwhile investment for the new parent with little time available for reading.

5 out of 5 stars 12 Hours in a row by 12 weeks saved us!   January 29, 2006

I read an article in the newspaper about this book and figured what the heck. This is by far the BEST book on the market for getting your child to sleep. It is short, to the point and very easy to follow. We started the training with Max at 11 weeks and he slept 12 hours in a row the very first day of training. Naps were harder to master but after a few weeks he looked forward to them! I have bought this book for all my friends with babies and moms to be. This is a must have if you cherish your sleep. Remember, a well rested Mommy and baby are a Happy Mommy and baby.

5 out of 5 stars I am a breastfeeding mom with a baby that now sleeps through the night!   July 8, 2006

I bought this book on a Sunday morning (I think it was Mother's day) after a
night of no sleep that was preceded by many days and nights of no sleep. My
son was born 4/20 and was a fussy baby. He was either eating (which wasn't
fun because I was "trying" to breastfeed), sleeping or crying and I was
loosing it! I started the training that night because he met the weight
requirement. Although the first night was unsuccessful and he ended up in
his swing that night, he was sleeping 12 hours by the time he was two months
old. The day before his two month birthday he slept from 7p-7a for the
first time! Not only did it help us sleep, but it also helped me continue
breastfeeding. He is a very aggressive eater so I quit about four times
because he was feeding constantly. Now, at 10 weeks old, we are
breastfeeding four times a day with ease, and he is putting himself to sleep
in his crib for two daily naps and at night - when he sleeps for 12 hours.
I passed your book on to a friend who had a three month old and she was
sleeping through the night before the week was over. Both are breastfed
babies and our friends and family can't believe it!

Thank you! Thank you!
