Dr. Bock has done a FANTASTIC job of explaining why the rates of these 4 diseases have gone up and how we can help to heal our kids who have them. Since we're all focused on helping our kids, here are the 4 parts of his healing program: 1) Nutritional Therapy, 2) Supplementation Therapy, 3) Detoxification, 4) Medication, and Putting these 4 therapies together. The 4 changes that he feels strongly have caused these diseases to now effect 1 in every 3 kids are: 1) Toxins Proliferated (in the air, oceans, foods, etc.), 2) Nutrition Deteriorated (fast foods and processed foods), 3) Vaccinations Increased (doubled since 1991), 4) Ability to Detoxify dwindled (methylation and sulfation damage or not working properly).
This is a great book for those who are just starting down the road of Autism, ADHD, Asthma or Allergies. It is NOT however, the book that old timers who have been doing Biomedical for years will get much from. It is similar to Jacqueline McCandless' book "Children with Starving Brains" but with much more explanation and details behind it and a great approach that goes beyond just one of the four epidemics.
If you have to choose just one book for a new parent to read to get them off the ground and jumping towards Biomedical approaches for their child's A-disease, this is it.
I would have paid $1,000 for this book! All of our children are in grave danger, and we MUST protect them! Everyone read this!!! September 16, 2007

Would you pay $17 to save your child from a life of chronic illness?? Of course you would! I am a well educated person in the medical field, and this book blew me away! I thought that the vaccination controversy was just parents finding something to blame for their sick kids, because physicans assure that they are safe. Well, guess what?? The government drastically changed the vaccination schedule in 1991, and the way that they administer them now, is harming our children! 2 studies of populations that do not vaccinate, had NO cases of autism!! Autism in our country has increased by 6,000%, and it is not the type that you are born with-that is still EXTREMELY rare! There is an epidemic of illnesses that are negatively affecting our children, and this book addresses all of them, as well as how to heal them! Our children's immune systems are being viciously attacked by a combination of toxins, and they are being severely injured. This book does a fabulous job of covering each in detail, from the negative impact of vaccines (our children were administered huge amounts of toxins); the epidemic of food allergies, which causes everything from ADHD, to learning and behavioral problems; the toxins in our food: from the antibiotics and hormones that are in our meat supply, to the pesticides and chemicals that are in everything else; and the toxins in our water and air. The reason that you don't hear about these things, is that our medical system and government are run by big business. There is money to be lost by natural therapies, and eating pure foods, because there is no pill to prescribe! There is a huge coverup in play, and we MUST educate ourselves and be our own advocates! Even if your child, (or yourself for that matter) are currently healthy, chances are, you won't be for long!! Your child can be a totally "normal" two year old, and then lose speech, mobility, and social interaction skills and become a shell of what they once were! ADHD and Asthma are increased by 400%! If you are a parent, or even know people with children, you need to read this book! If we don't do something drastic now, we are going to have an entire society with chronic illnesses, and our country will be severely affected! We need to be armed with knowledge and band together to fight the system, and protect all of us! I implore you to read this book,and tell everyone that you know- you will not be sorry!!

My 3 year old son was diagnosed with autism at 20 months and has been Dr. Bock's patient for 1 1/2 years. His book is a miracle for all parents with children on the autism spectrum or related diagnoses. His treatment is simple yet extraordinary in bringing about changes and recovery in children. My son was mute, violent, refused to eat or sleep before Dr. Bock's treatment- now, 1 1/2 years later, he's ready to be mainstreamed into preschool. He has performed miracles with my son, simply by recognizing the root causes of my son's condition and treating it simply through diet, supplement therapy and removing metals. He makes no promises, but I can tell you from our experience that he has truly worked miracles for my son and our family!

I purchased this book after seeing the author on television. He was being interviewed, and I decided a long time ago to support professionals who stand by their conviction regarding the etiology of autism, i.e., the belief that autism is caused by or exacerbated by some environmental trigger or combination of triggers. Dr. Bock has done his own research, he's concluded that environmental insults likely have something to do with causing autism, and he's providing hope for parents and their children challenged by autism. He should be supported for this alone. Indeed, these are three actions which, as the parent of two daughters with autism, I have yet to witness from the doctors who interact with my girls.
I find Bock's book to be both smarmy and without information that hasn't already been written many times over. One example of his smarmy elements is his treatment on parents' love for their children. From this treatment, a reader might conclude that children who don't recover from autism are not loved or loved as much as they need to be by their parents--somewhere Bettelheim is smiling. If the reader is charitable, she would not make this inference. Even with charity, though, it takes a dedicated reader to overlook Bock's excessive reference to parental love and read the book to its end. The trouble with reading the book to its end is that the reader will not find any thing new in Bock's book that hasn't already been written. Thus, I give his book a charitable three star rating, but I only recommend his book to those who are new to autism's biochemical community AND who are able to overlook the smarmy elements of this book that may also be found to be quite offensive.

On or about August 2007 I was informed by a speech therapist that my 7 year-old son may have Asperger's. I was stunned and a bit angered for her "diagnosing" him. Nevertheless, I looked further into the subject and knew right away she was right. Imagine my anguish, pain and guilt after five years of frustration in dealing with my child's behaviour. I thought that by screaming, yelling and reprimanding him he would change his ways. It's part of growing up, I thought.
Both my spouse and I are professionals in the field of Early Childhood, she as a special needs teacher and I as an administrator. Little did we knew about how close Autism is around us, from the friendly little faces we see and misunderstand every day---to those who suffer even greater anguish in the spectrum of autism.
After doing some research, we fell upon this book. THANK GOD!
I read the first half of the book immediately and followed Dr. Bock's advice: change his diet to Gluten Free Casein Free.
In less than three weeks we noticed a drastic change in my son. My son now concentrates well in school, hardly fusses anymore, falls asleep quicker and gives everyone eye contact!
We find his GFCF food at Trader Joe's..they have great selection and better prices. The food tastes great. We now eat GFCF ourselves and take nutrients, including multivitamins.
Dr. Bock---thank you so much for pursuing the field of medicine and concentrating on autism. We owe you a great deal of gratitude and recommend the book to everyone that has concerns about their children's behavior. We follow your advice, and keep track of my son's eating habits and school work. The teachers are impressed at his turn around, including his physicians.
