5 out of 5 stars Between men and women there is no friendship possible. There is passion, enmity, worship, love, but no friendship.-Oscar Wilde   November 11, 2008

After losing her husband to a stock car accident two years ago, Tamara Riggs is a single mother and widow at the age of 32. She is just getting back into the dating scene when she meets a young rookie driver, Elec. Not really wanting to get involved with another race car driver, Tamara is convinced that keeping it light and casual is the only way to go, unfortunately that gets harder and harder to do.

I loved this book and I think it is going to be an awesome series. Erin McCarthy cracks me up and she had me laughing out loud throughout this book. Tamara's friend Suzanne was a laugh riot and her outspoken and blunt ways quickly won me over. Erin McCarthy books are always extremely fun, humorous and a whole lot sexy. This one was no exception; I loved it from start to finish.

Mixed in with all the sizzle and humor is a lot of emotion and depth. Tamara has a lot of reservations about herself and dating after all these years and is concerned about doing what's best for her kids. I adored Elic from the start; he has a lot of heart and was a hell of a good guy. It's great to read about a hero that can be sexy as hell, genuinely decent, and incredibly exciting. I can't wait to read the next one and look forward to more stories about this group of characters!

5 out of 5 stars humorous contemporary romance   November 4, 2008

Widow Professor Tamara Briggs raises her two children in quiet safe environs. After her husband died in a fiery NASCAR accident, she vowed to keep her kids safe and her heart too.

Driver Elec Monroe has had his fill of groupies. Instead he wants Tamara even if she is a few years older than him and he even likes her two kids. He scores with her in the tryst of a lifetime, but she obstinately refuses his efforts to shift their relationship beyond a one night stand into first gear as he is a dreaded driver like her children's late dad. He begins a campaign that NASCAR would love as a victory to him is winning Tamara's heart permanently.

The opening line by Tamara's friend Suzanne sets the stage of an engaging often humorous contemporary romance when she says Tamara's boyfriend anthropology Professor Geoffrey Ayers has less testosterone than a teenage girl. The story line accelerates from that terrific observation and never slows down as Elec tries to keep up with his racing heart to win the greatest prize of all, the love of a lifetime while his checkered flag in this race is an obstinate single mom.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to Find a Good Modern Story, but Erin Delivers   November 11, 2008

Wow. Where do I start. I loved this story. It seems so hard to find a good contemporary book, but boy did this deliver.
This is about Tamara Briggs, who is a 32 year old mother of 2. She is tring to raise her son and daughter after her husband was killed racing his car. She is tring to have a "safe" relationship. She doesn't want to get involved with someone that is dangerous. She also didn't plan on meeing Elec Monroe.
There is nothing like that instant attraction, and the hormones are going crazy. You have to be with him. That's how it was with Tamara and Elec.
I loved her insecurities about her body. As a wife, and mother, I know those "oh my, my stomach does look like a race track" moments. He was so patient and loving with her, letting her finally come to grips with how her relationship was with her dead husband has affected how she felt about herself.
This was funny, very sexy, and just a great read. There was no deep, brooding vampire, or some major trama for the couple to get over. Just a story about a boy who likes a girl. A girl with a few reservations to come to grips with, but finally they get their HEA. Thats really why we read romance books.

What a yummy cover. I expected this book to be a fun, hot little number, but it was just so much more. Flat-Out Sexy is a modern day fairy tale and Elec is a modern day Prince Charming! Elec and Tamara are two very likable characters, who you find yourself cheering for their HEA, while some complications are thought through by Tamara. While the escapades are very, very hot (satisfaction guaranteed), this story is relationship driven and all the characters involved you come to care for. This is book one in a Racing Series, all I can say is that I hope it's the beginning of a 12 book series! The next book in the series is Hard and Fast. It will be released in May 2009 and will be the story of Imogen and Ty. She is Tamara's up tight assistant, he's the Godfather of Tamara's daughter and a playboy racecar driver. The preview in the back of the book makes me think May is a long time away!

This is my first Erin McCarthy book, and I think I have another author to gobble up their backlist!!! Thank you Ms. McCarthy for a book I cannot part with!

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars. Single mom falls for a younger race car driver. Light, fluffy romance with a few mild conflicts.   November 11, 2008

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
This is a pleasant, sweet story. Sensitive and insecure Tamara gets won over by Elec who adores her and is wonderful with her children. Women will love him. He does all the right things, and he only has eyes for her. I liked reading about stock car racing. I liked thinking about the drivers going 185 miles per hour with only inches between the cars.

My definitions for 3, 4 and 5 stars are Liked it, Really liked it and Loved it. There was nothing wrong with this book. It's a good book among many. It just didn't hit me as strongly as some other books have. If I try to find some constructive criticism, it is probably that I am looking for things that surprise me, or make me laugh out loud, or feel strong emotions. Witty conversation or something creatively different will lead me to 4 and 5 stars.

STORY BRIEF:
Tamara has two children. Her husband Pete was a stock car driver who was killed in a race two years earlier. Tamara meets Elec, and they are immediately attracted to each other. She is concerned that he is 25, 7 years younger than she is. She fears that he has a string of women and only wants short-term relationships or one-night stands. She is also fearful of his risky lifestyle, being a race car driver. She has other concerns: not wanting to disappoint her children or her in-laws and a few post pregnancy body flaws. The story is about their growing attraction and how they end up handling her concerns.
