Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Minolta is pleased to announce the addition of the dual-film format Dimage Scan Speed to its film-scanner lineup, blending the engineering excellence and image quality of the Dimage Scan Multi with the bi-format convenience of the Dimage Scan Dual.Minolta's Speed combines high quality, high resolution and scans of 35mm and Advanced Photo System film with easy-to-use software and a competitive price. This synthesis of value and technology make the Dimage Scan Speed an ideal scanner for a variety of personal and professional uses, including those in the photographic, design, and printing fields. The Speed completes Minolta's film scanner trio; the Dimage Scan Dual, Dimage Scan Speed, and Dimage Scan Multi, designed to match the diverse demands of today's consumers. With an input resolution capability of 2820dpi - crisp, detailed images are guaranteed. Scanning speed is an important factor of productivity and the Speed's improved engineering makes it faster than Minolta's previous dual-format model. The Dimage Scan Speed driver software has all the features needed for making quality, accurate scans the first time, every time. The software's graphical user interface uses independent windows and has graphical function buttons for quick, easy access. The versatile driver software is delivered as a stand-alone application, an Adobe Photoshop plug-in, and a TWAIN driver tested for use with a multitude of popular graphics applications. The Speed's software is available for both Macintosh and PC/AT compatible systems. There are different levels of image-correction control that can be selected depending on the user's needs and skill. The Variations window simplifies all the brightness, contrast, and color corrections into a visual display - just pick the one that looks best! Packed with excellent features and with a lower price than any other 12-bit scanner currently on the market, the Dimage Scan Speed possesses the necessary tools for today's scanning demands.

3 out of 5 stars OK scanner, but no Digital ICE for image cleaning after scan   March 1, 2001

The title of the review says it all.

Do NOT get this scanner. Get the Minolta Dimage Scan Elite for a little more with Digital Ice. I did quite a bit of research before deciding on this scanner, so I'll sum up for you what took me many hours. I also considered a couple of the lower end Minolta Dimage scanners, as well as the Nikon Coolscan and the HP Photosmart S20.

Essentially, they all promise to scan 35mm film, and with an adapter, it can also do APS. However, promises are just that - empty for most of these scanners.

This one is OK if you dont mind some bad scans b/c of no Digital Ice. If you spend another $100 you can get the Scan Elite which has the Digital Ice. A MUST have.
