| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description SVP FS-1700 is a innovative standalone film scanner that instantly converts 35mm film negatives and slides into digital images without the need for a computer or application software. Now you can preserve all their photo memories by turning the millions of photographs now stored on slides and negatives into digital images to preserve them forever. We have created a very simple-to-use device that works right out of the box and produces a five-megapixel digital image in five seconds at a push of a button. The device features a 5mpix scanning chip (i.e. 2592x1680 pixels, 3600 dpi) producing the images large enough to be printed on a A4 page! Unlike similar devices currently on the market, the SVP FS-1700 does not require a computer or learning a new software program, and it takes very little space to operate, store or transport.
NOTE! This model doesn't provide the photo scanning function!

Great Product. Exceeded Expectations. November 22, 2009 Happy Shopping (California, USA) 140 out of 145 found this review helpful
With the sd card slot, there is no need to connect this scanner to a computer and therefor I didn't have to deal with any included software. Just left the cd in the box. I used this scanner without a computer to scan my slides. I used aaa batteries for portability, and I also used the included power cord when I was near an oulet to save on money buying batteries. The quality of the scanner is great! The scan of a slide is so fast that at first I didn't even know it scanned. You literally push a button and it's done that second. There is no noise. Once I was done scanning all of my slides, I simply took the sd card out of the scanner and into a card reader to my computer. The files were all in standard jpeg format where any program on your computer could read the files.
Fast scanning but instructions are very poorly written. January 1, 2010 Tina from Brooklyn (Rapid City, SD) 44 out of 44 found this review helpful
First time I ever used a slide scanner so can't compare it to others. But extremely fast scanning, about 2 seconds per slide.
Would have been nice to have slide holder with more than 3 slots but holder was easy to use.
My only complaint was the instruction manual- I had trouble knowing exactly what to do and how to switch from screen to screen (eg., save image, delete, transfer to computer) but did figure it all out after a few tries.
Use a memory card; faster than using scanner for memory since after about 6 slides scanner memory was full.
No problem transferring images to my Apple computer.
Yes I would recommend buying it and loved seeing my 40 year old slides on my computer screen.

Have old slides from the 60's that I wanted to convert into pictures. Took them to a local photo shop and the pictures were such bad quality that you couldn't tell who they were. Looking for something to do the job myself that didn't break the bank and this is the perfect product. Very quick and easy to use and I like the fact that I didn't have to plug it into my computer. Converted 92 slides into double prints in less then 6 hours; that included fixing the quality of the prints. Would have given it 5 stars but I had to turn some of the slides side ways or it cut the top of the heads off.
Some malfunctions . . . January 18, 2010 D. Edwards (Los Angeles, CA United States) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
I got this for my father's Christmas present. He has lots of slides from the 50s and 60s that he has stored away and I thought he'd enjoy easier access to the photos. We set it up and I started scanning the slides. When I went to run slide show, it showed the group that I had originally scanned but not ones that I added later. However, when I took the memory card out of the scanner and put it in a camera, they all showed up. I'm not sure I understand why this is happening. I popped the card back into the scanner to see if all of the images could now be seen but, once again, it only showed me the ones I had originally scanned. I opted for this particular product because it mentioned it could be operated as a stand-alone item without a computer program. I gave it 3 stars because it scanned each slide quite quickly and it was easy to operate. However, I had wanted to buy something that would be hassle-free. This isn't hassle-free. I'm not impressed.
Good show January 30, 2010 Fast Eddy (Miami) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Excellent for what it does. Inexpensive and relatively simply to figure out. Eats batteries. Use the USB to power it. Overall I'm very satisfied.
